What is Inclusion and Why is It Important?

Patrick Schwarz was the first presenter in our three-part webinar series.  Patrick is an international speaker and leader in inclusive education, Professor at National-Louis University in Chicago, and author of "From Disability to Possibility", "Pedro's Whale", as well as other publications.

This webinar provides an overview of what inclusion is and what it is not, explains how inclusion prepares students for life, and benefits of inclusion.  In addition, personal students' stories illustrate how inclusion impacted their lives.

How Do You Make it Work in the Classroom?

Paula Kluth, consultant, author, advocate, and scholar will present the second webinar in our three-part series.  Paula works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities.  She is the author of "100 Ways to Differentiate Instruction in K-12 Classrooms" and "You're Going to Love this Kid: Teaching Students with Autism in Inclusive Classrooms".

This webinar explains that special education is a service, not a place.  Several strategies for increasing students' participation in the general education classroom are explained, including co-teaching and strategies for including students with autism.  Additionally, the importance of family partnerships is discussed.

Making Inclusion Happen at the District Level

Tammie Henry, Director of Project CHOICES, will present the final webinar in our series in partnership with a teacher and family member.  Prior to becoming our Director, Tammie was a special education teacher, principal, and superintendent.

This webinar provides information about building a district level system to support students in the Least Restrictive Environment.  How to plan for system level change, implement professional development, and ensure that changes sustain are all discussed in this session.
