Nancy Spejcher, Information Specialist
Nancy has worked in education since 1963. After graduating from
Southern Illinois University with her BS in General Education, she
moved from rural southern Illinois to the Chicago-land area. She
began her career teaching third grade in Schaumburg, IL and went on
to get her MS in Education through Northern Illinois University,
with specialties in Language Arts and Special Education. She joined
Project CHOICES in 1994; from 1963 - 1994, she was an elementary
teacher (1963-1966), a stay at home mom (1967-1974), special
education teacher (1974-1979), early childhood diagnostician
(1979-1982), a special education administrator (1982-1994), and a
university instructor (1989-2006) in the northwest and western
suburbs of Chicago. Her last 7 years in a formal district setting,
where she was administrated special education were spent bringing
all students back to their home schools so everyone could receive
their education in general education classrooms with same age
peers. Nancy's passion is bringing access and equity to all
students and unifying the systems of education; given her
background, she brings a wealth of experiences and information to
Project CHOICES.
Nancy loves spending time with family and friends. Interests
include reading, writing, hiking, photography, theatre, NPR, and
computers. She travels extensively and hopes to see most of the
world before leaving it. San Diego with its beaches, mountains,
desert, flowers, farmer markets and laid back attitude is her
favorite place on the planet and a photographer's paradise. She can
