Julie A. Schackmann, Consultant
Julie has 33 years in education. She started her educational
career as a teaching assistant. It was during that time that she
discovered her real passion, educating students with disabilities.

the Danville Public Schools before leaving to become a consultant
with Project CHOICES. Julie was a teacher at Danville High School
and had the good fortune to be one of thirteen school districts in
Illinois designated as Project CHOICES sites in 1988. She has been
a consultant with Project CHOICES since 1990. Julie brings
experience and knowledge in educating students with significant
disabilities in general education. She has supported school
districts throughout the state of Illinois in their efforts to
bring children and young adults back to their home districts and
educate them in the least restrictive environment. Some areas of
interest include High School Inclusion, transition to adulthood and
school, family, and community partnerships. She has a bachelor's
degree in special education from the University of Illinois and an
administrative degree from Eastern Illinois University.
She owns an antique store with her husband Bob. This keeps her very
busy on the weekends. Searching for wonderful antiques is her
hobby. She enjoys visiting her daughter Sarah in Treasure Island,
Florida and spending time with her son Tyler and her grandson
Talon. Gardening has brought her several citywide awards and she
bleeds orange and blue trying to never miss an Illini basketball or
